Rama launched in South Africa in 1972 in a full fat brick format as a more affordable alternative to butter and was the first yellow margarine to be launched into the market when legislation on margarine changed.

  • Rama tubs were first introduced into the South African market in 1976.

  • Rama Light (medium fat) tubs launched in 1989.

  • In 2003 Rama introduced the first ambient stable margarine in the South African market in a 50g sachet format.

  • The retail selling price is under R3.00 per sachet to ensure that great tasting nutrition is made accessible to everyone! (Current retail selling price R2.2.9)

  • In December 2005, Rama re-launched into its iconic new gold medal packaging to re-ignite its emotional connection with its consumers and reaffirm its leadership in the market as a champion of nutrition.   

  • In Oct 2008 Rama Everyday was launched to offer our consumer a more affordable medium fat margarine, catering for both cooking and spreading.In July 2009 Rama Spread for Bread was launched, a low-fat spread just for spreading and the most affordable Rama.
